Friendship Fortnight - By Rachel
Monday - Wednesday 10th – 19th February 2014
The junior and senior infants learned a song . They learned ‘These Are My Friends’ which was tied to their letter of the week ‘F’. They also talked about ‘friends’ on FRIENDSHIP FORTNIGHT. They went over their song ‘These Are My Friends’. They learned the first verse of the poem ‘Make New Friends’. They also read a book called Farmer Duck which is about animal friends. They made cookies with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd class. They also had circle time and talked about ‘What I like about my friend’ and they also learned the 2nd verse of ‘Make New Friends’.
1st, 2nd, 3rd Class
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd class made daffodils together as artwork for their bright classroom. They finished their daffodil artwork off. They made Friendship Surveys with each other. They learned the ‘Make New Friends’ poem and they also made cookies with the infants.
4th, 5th, 6th Class
The 4th, 5th, and 6th class made posters to advertise FRIENDSHIP FORTNIGHT. They also made friendship quilt patches to show everyone what makes them happy. We coloured and decorated them ourselves. They learned the poem ‘Make New Friends’ and got more time to decorate our quilt patches. They drew mazes and led their partners through them. They made Friend Venn Diagrams with the partners we were paired with and they also wrote an acrostic poem called ‘A Good Friend’.
On the last day of FRIENDSHIP FORNIGHT we had a non-uniform day and the whole school gathered around and made Galmoy’s biggest Friendship Daisy Chain. We also had a guide my blindfolded buddy around our mazes which we designed ourselves. It was a fantastic experience and one which showed us how important friendship is to everyone. Here is the acrostic poem we wrote together called “A Good Friend”
A Good Friend
Forgives me when I truly sin
Remembers your favourite things
In every way they make me smile
Enjoy their presence all the while
Never makes me sad or cry
Despises ever telling a lie
Shares the sunshine every day
Honest and helpful in many ways
In your heart thy will always be
Pals are people who are the 4 me
